Amish White Bread

Ingredients

  • 4 c warm water (120 degrees)
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1 T sugar
  • 1/3 c vegetable oil
  • 1/3 c honey
  • 1 T salt
  • 10-12 c bread Flour
  • Directions

    1. Mix together water, yeast and sugar.
    2. Let stand 15 minutes until bubbly.
    3. Whisk in oil, honey and salt.
    4. Add in flour 1 cup at a time, mix with dough hook.
    5. When mixer can not handle the volume, turn it out onto counter and work in more flour until the dough is formed.
    6. Knead for 5-8 minutes until dough is smooth.
    7. Place in greased bowl and let raise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
    8. Form into 3 loaves (or 2 loaves and 12 buns), place in buttered pans.
    9. Cover and let rise until doubled in size.
    10. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake for 30 minutes (25 for buns).
    11. Brush top of loaves with butter after baking (if desired).

  • Makes 3 loaves.
